With a student community composed of 47% internationals, Sciences Po attributes great importance to the teaching of French as a foreign language. The quality of its language teaching plays a significant role in the academic success of students and their integration into the Sciences Po community.

The courses in French as a Foreign Language are part of the general syllabus of Sciences Po and are aimed at the students who will graduate from the school, those who follow the dual bachelor’s degree programs and foreign exchange students (Bachelor and Master’s degrees).

The Summer School offers intensive FLE courses to students of all horizons. Several hundred people from all over the world join the Sciences Po community during the months of June and July.

Tailored academic programs

The courses in French as a Foreign Language are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and cover 5 levels from beginner to advanced.

  • A1 « Beginner »
  • A2 « Elementary »
  • B1 « Intermediate »
  • B2 « Upper-intermediate »
  • C1 « Advanced or Proficient » 

These classes aim at building and reinforcing language and cultural skills.

Each level is defined in a charter (in French and in English) which provides information about the objectives, the skills students should acquire, the types of assessment and the requirements for credit validation.

Action-Based and Personalized Teaching

The courses in French as a Foreign Language group students by ability in classes which put the emphasis on active participation, whilst integrating the intercultural competence. These courses are completed by personalized teaching thanks to tutorials.

Useful tools for self-study purposes, selected and classified in accordance with each CEFR level and by skill, are also at the students’ disposal.
