Scholarships

I am a British national and registering at Sciences Po for the first time? Can I apply for the Émile Boutmy scholarship?

Since the United Kingdom left the European Union, students of British nationality with a tax residence outside the European Economic Area are eligible to apply for the Émile Boutmy scholarship.

I have British nationality and I am registering at Sciences Po for the first time. Can I apply for the Crous bursary for the 2023-2024 academic year?

Since 1st January 2021, students who have British nationality are considered as non-European students. Therefore, you are only eligible for the CROUS scholarship if you meet the following three criteria:

  • in possession of a valid residence permit;
  • can justify a presence in France for at least 2 years on 01/09/2021;
  • can provide evidence of a tax household (father, mother or legal guardian) in France for at least 2 years.

I have British nationality and was enrolled as a Crous bursary holder student for the 2020-2021 academic year. What status will I have for the 2023-2024 academic year?

The French Ministry of Higher Education has decided to maintain the Crous status, for British students who were Crous bursary holder students in 2020-2021 (if they meet the Crous general criteria).

As a Crous bursary holder, you will be able to benefit from a full tuition fee waiver, bursary awarded by the Crous and additional bursary awarded by Sciences Po, corresponding to 75% of the amount awarded by the Crous.

If you had Crous bursary status duing the 2020-2021 academic year, please ensure that you submit and complete your Student Social File (FR) by the deadline of 15th May.

I have British nationality and receive the Sciences Po Europe bursary for the 2020-2021 academic year. What status will I have for the 2023-2024 academic year?

As a Sciences Po bursary holder student in 2020-2021, you will benefit from a full tuition fee waiver for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Sciences Po will also continue to disburse a cost of living bursary corresponding to your Crous level for 2021-2022 and to the "Sciences Po cost of living bursary" corresponding amount.

Please note that you will no longer be able to apply for the Crous bursary (FR).

To benefit from this status, please submit a Sciences Po Europe bursary application for 2021-2022.

For example: a Sciences Po Europe bursary holder student, level 2 in 2021-2022, will benefit from a full tuition fee and will receive a cost of living bursary amounting to an annual amount of 1 928 euros for the 2021-2022 academic year.

This tuition fee waiver and the payment of your "Sciences Po cost of living bursary" will apply until the end of your academic studies at Sciences Po.

I am a new student and my parents have a tax residence in the United Kingdom. How will my tuition fees be calculated for 2023-2024?

Since 1st January 2021, the United Kingdom has left the European Union. If your parents' tax residence is situated in the United Kingdom, the maximum tuition fees will apply.

I will be re-enrolling at Sciences Po and my parents have a tax residence in the United Kingdom. How will my tuition fees be calculated for 2023-2024?

  • Re-enrolment for students enrolled in 2020-2021 or previously and re-registering for the same programme: Iif you are continuing your studies in the same study cycle, tuition fees calculation rules will remain unchanged and therefore you will continue to benefit from the sliding scale of tuition fees.
  • Re-enrolment for students enrolled from 2021-2022 and re-registering for the same programme: if you have been admitted to Sciences Po in 2021-2022 or if you have moved on from undergraduate to graduate level (or from graduate level to post graduate level) in 2021-2022, the maximum tuition fees will apply.

I will be re-enrolling at Sciences Po, changing study cycles and my parents have a tax residence in the United Kingdom. How will my tuition fees be calculated for 2023-2024?

If you are continuing your studies and changing study cycles the maximum tuition fees will apply.

Students concerned by a change in study cycles are undergraduate studies programme students moving onto a Masters programme or Masters students enrolling in the preparation of administrative exams in 2023-2024.

If you fall into one of the above categories and anticipate financial difficulties in relation to the increase in tuition fees, please get in touch explaining your situation.

Will I be able to enter France in relation to the current health crisis?

As a student, you will need to submit an application for a long-stay student visa. You 
will be considered as a person who is authorised to enter France by way of derogation, by providing a certificate of international travel.

Since the 1st January 2021, you need to apply for a visa to study in the United-Kingdom unless you will be studying for a duration of less than 6 months.

What travel document should I present when travelling to the United Kingdom?

Starting from 1st October 2021, you are required to travel with a passport, as an identity card is no longer sufficient.

For French or European citizens who are resident in the UK with "settled" or "pre-settled status", a national identity card remains a valid document until 2025.

If you began your studies in France before the 31st December 2020: you continue to benefit from the same conditions and can continue to use your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) until it expires. From January 2021, the EHIC is replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).

If you began your studies after the 31st December 2020, EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which apply from 1 January 2021, are similar to existing provisions in EU regulations on coordination of healthcare. You can therefore continue to use your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) until it expires. From January 2021, the EHIC is replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).

I am French and studying in the United Kingdom. What health coverage do I have?

If you began your studies in the United Kingdom before 31st December 2020: you will be able to continue to benefit from a European Health Insurance card (EHIC) to be used in the United Kingdom where you will continue your studies and for the duration of your course.

If you began your studies in the United Kingdom after the 31st December 2020: The provisions of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which apply from 1 January 2021, are similar to existing provisions in EU regulations on coordination of healthcare. You will be able to continue to benefit from a European Health Insurance card (EHIC) to be used in the United Kingdom.

Please note: French nationals starting their studies from January 1 2021 must hold a residence permit.

When applying for a residence permit longer than 6 months, students will have to pay a surcharge to access NHS health care. This surcharge may be reimbursed to them on request.
