Observatory of Northeastern Africa

The Observatory of Northeastern Africa is a research programme comanaged by CEDEJ Khartoum (MAEDI-CNRS USR 3123) and CERI. Following on from the Observatoire de la Corne de l’Afrique that it has come to replace, the Observatory of Northeastern Africa broadens the general scope of study.

The notes are all published online, and are downloadable on this website. Previous Notes and reports (2013-2016) and accessible on Les Afriques dans le monde .

The Observatory aims to produce analytical and topical Notes on the subjects that concern the region and its relations with the world, such as contemporary religious dynamics, political violence, major development projects and human circulation. On the one hand, it aims to put political current events into historical perspective and, on the other hand, to provide them with empirical studies that are sometimes neglected or often difficult to access.

This research programme is supported by the Direction générale des relations internationales et de la stratégie (French ministry of Defense). It rests on a wide network of partners abroad, in particular the French research institutes worldwide (CFEE d’Addis-Abeba,IFRA Nairobi, CEDEJ du Caire) and in France ( Institut français des relations internationales , CSBA-Observatoire de la Corne de l'Afrique , LAM-Sciences Po Bordeaux ).

This page gathers the Notes written by the Observatory’s contributors, the programmes and the recordings of current and past seminars (2017-2018-2019).
