Summer School 2021: Expand your horizons!

The Sciences Po Summer School provides a unique opportunity for students to discover academics at Sciences Po during the summer at the Paris campus or online, anywhere in the world! Here’s what you need to know before starting your application!

The Summer School offers two programmes:

  • The University Programme, open to university students, graduates and professionals, as well as students in their final year of secondary school.
  • The Pre-College Programme, open to students who will be at least 15 years old at the time of the programme and enrolled in secondary school for Fall 2021.

Given current public health regulations and restrictions on international travel that may prevent some students from attending the University Programme in person, the Summer School will be offering a selection of courses online in June and July in order to allow participants from all over the world to study at Sciences Po this summer.

The Summer School will also be offering a selection of courses on campus for the July session of the University Programme for students who are able to travel to Paris. The number of students present on campus will be limited in accordance with social distancing and public health measures, allowing us to ensure a safe learning experience for all students.

Due to the suspension of residential summer camps in France, the 2021 Pre-College Programme will be offered entirely online for both sessions.

Summer School courses are organised in small-group, interactive seminars that allow students to engage closely with renowned professors and other international students. These specially designed courses allow for maximum interaction through debates and discussions.

Students also have access to all of Sciences Po's learning and research tools via their student account, which gives them full access to the online resources of Sciences Po's library.

University Programme for Students and Graduates

Programme Dates:

  • June (online) session: June 7th - July 1st, 2021
  • July (online and on campus) session: July 5th - July 30th, 2021

Students may participate in one or both sessions.

The University Programme is a unique opportunity for university students and graduates from all over the world to discover Sciences Po, France's leading university in the social sciences.

Participants in the Summer School’s University Programme can:
  • Study Sciences Po’s key disciplines, such as international relations, political science, or economics, in the social sciences track (classes taught in English by Sciences Po professors and researchers).
  • Immerse themselves in intensive French language study in the French language track.

There will also be a separate social and cultural programme for the online session and the on campus session. Both programmes will also include career workshops to help students prepare their professional skills for the workplace.

Online Pre-College Programme for High School Students

Programme Dates:

  • First session: June 28th – July 9th, 2021
  • Second session: July 19th – July 30th, 2021

Students may participate in one or both sessions.

The Online Pre-College Programme gives high school students a taste of university academics through rigorous coursework in the social sciences, which introduces them to the key disciplines and methodologies of a Sciences Po education.

Participants explore current international issues from an interdisciplinary perspective through thematic master classes taught by Sciences Po professors. These master classes address subjects such as the European Union, populist movements, peace-building and sustainable development. Interactive tutorials reinforce learning, while preparing students for university studies through an emphasis on academic methodology. Elective classes allow students to focus on one of Sciences Po’s core disciplines (such as international relations, political science, or sociology).

Master classes and tutorials are taught exclusively in English. Students have a choice between the social science elective classes taught in English or French.

In addition, the programme includes a rich social and cultural programme to recreate the multicultural social environment of the Summer School.

At this time, the Summer School plans for some of the courses for the July session of the University Programme to take place in-person on Sciences Po's Paris campus. However, we are closely monitoring the global health situation in the context of Covid-19. The Summer School is prepared to move these courses online if necessary. As the situation for Summer 2021 becomes clearer, we will adapt our course offering accordingly and update our website with any changes. The Pre-College Programme will remain online for both sessions.

Sciences Po respects all public health regulations for higher education institutions; measures may evolve following new government recommendations. You can find more information about health regulations currently implemented at Sciences Po on our Covid-19 FAQ.
