Biodiversity restoration, a unique source of opportunities: Creating value in a greener, regenerated economy.
General introduction by Florent Bonaventure, Executive Dean of Sciences Po’s School of Management and Innovation.
After introducing the challenges posed by biodiversity loss, Henry Saint Bris, President of Ansa, will showcase concrete company examples of environmental and value benefits associated with biodiversity restoration.
Gilles Andrier, CEO of Givaudan will present Givaudan’s vision, purpose and strategy in terms of sustainability.
Hallvard Bremnes, Global Head of sustainability of Givaudan will illustrate the economic benefits of nature restoration by providing concrete examples such as the Naturality platform which enables the design of fragrances in a nature conscious way.
On June 4th, 2021, G7 finance ministers endorsed the launch of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), a global market-led initiative which will deliver a framework for organizations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks. This announcement sheds light on a planetary emergency that is now being addressed seriously by international bodies: biodiversity loss.
Human agriculture and industrial expansion have led to the loss of 83% of all wild mammals, 50% of plants species, 85% of wetlands, as well as altered 75% of land surface, and impacted 66% of ocean area. Scientists claim that a sixth mass extinction is under way. This phenomenon particularly threatens global food security, the construction sector, and the development of new pharmaceuticals. From an economic standpoint, around $44trn – more than half of global GDP – is exposed to risks from nature loss, putting it as one of the top five threats humanity will face in the next ten years (WEF).
