“The Bodies of U.S. Presidents”

In view of the upcoming November 3, 2020 presidential election, we spoke to historian Thomas Snégaroff who specialises in U.S. politics.

At Sciences Po, he teaches the course “The Bodies of U.S. Presidents,” in which he analyses the symbolism and representation of presidents’ bodies and how they project and manipulate political discourse. Snégaroff uses the bodies of U.S. presidents as a prism to better understand the country’s state of affairs, the president’s popularity, citizens’ feelings and understanding of how their country is doing and how voters will vote. In this video, he shares his analysis of the bodies of Donald Trump and Joe Biden in their run for president, and how they are used to project the values of the individuals and their respective parties.
