Juliette Kon Kam King received multidisciplinary training (Sciences Po Paris/UPMC) in environmental studies involving natural and social sciences, supplemented by a degree in science and technology studies (EHESS). She obtained a PhD in human geography as part of a co-tutelle between the University of Bremen and Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 University. She held a position as a non-tenured teaching and research fellow in history and sociology of science at the Department of History of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Strasbourg. She has also taught at Sorbonne University and Sciences Po Paris. She joined CERI as an Assistant Professor to conduct research on ocean policies.
Her research focuses on the study of environmental sciences and policies, at the intersection of science and technology studies, environmental humanities and political sociology. She is particularly interested in environmental surveillance and the associated observation and monitoring infrastructures and data. Her work has focused on the evolution of soil mapping and monitoring in France, as well as on tuna fishery monitoring apparatuses in the South Pacific. She is now interested in deep-sea surveillance policies and practices in relation to controversies surrounding the exploitation of deep-sea resources (particularly mineral ones).
