Gender and International seminar
Ariane Badet, Béatrice Châteauvert-Gagnon, Hugo Longieras
The idea of this Gender and International seminar was born out of the lack of space to think about the impact of gender in our fields and the contributions of gender studies to international relations.
This seminar aims to create a community of researchers to collectively think about the contributions of gender to our understanding of the 'international.' Participants are thus invited to think about the ways in which gender influences their research. It also aims to help participants to problematize gender thanks to the tools given by gender studies, including in fields where they seem to be invisible. This seminar is intended for the entire CERI community (in an interdisciplinary perspective) and beyond.
Each session will start with a presentation from an invited researcher on the following question: How has gender impacted your research? A great deal of freedom is given to the speaker. They can thus share the unfolding of their fieldwork, but also their thoughts about the implications of gender on methodological, theoretical, epistemological, or ethical aspects of their research. The initial presentation will be followed by a time of discussion with the speaker and a collective brainstorming on the contributions of the session to our respective practices of research. The goal is to allow participants to share their experience and collective reflection on the topic of the initial presentation.
This seminar aims to be interactive and open to all. Hence, gender does not have to be at the core of your research to take part in the seminar. You only have to show the will to reflect on the gendered dimensions of your research.
