Jean-Philippe Béja has graduated from Sciences Po, INALCO (Chinese), the Centre de formation des journalistes (CFJ), Liaoning University (Chinese Litterature) and got his Ph.D in Far Eastern Studies from the Ecole pratique des hautes études (6th Section).
He became a research fellow at CNRS and CERI-Sciences Po in 1975. Co-Founder of China Perspectives, he has spent eight years at CEFC in Hong Kong and Beijing.
He supervises Ph.D dissertations at Sciences Po.
Counsellor of the Lisbon Institute of Sinology (Instituto de Sinologia), he is a member of the editorial boards of Perspectives chinoises/China Perspectives, East Asia: An International Journal (New Jersey), The Journal of Contemporary China and Chinese Cross Currents (Macau).
He organizes Summer programs on China at the Polytechnic University of Lausanne.
