The US Presidential Election

This webinar will examine the following issues, all related to the forthcoming US presidential election (Nov. 3d, 2020): the role of public opinion polls in predicting the outcome of the election, particularly in battle-ground states; the potential impact of the covid pandemic, the economic crisis, urban riots and violence, environmental crises, on likely voters; the reaction to specific events such as the two party conventions, the first Trump/Biden debate, the unexpected death of Justice Bader Ginsburg.
Special attention will be given to categories of voters most likely to play a decisive role in the election : young and senior voters, suburban housewives, minority voters, evangelical voters, blue collar workers…
More fundamentally, the participants will reflect on the very nature of this election: is it a referendum on Trump? A test of American democracy? The reflection of an excessively polarized society?
The participants will also discuss possible outcomes in the event there is no clear winner the day of the election.
