As part of the lecture series on the conflict in the Middle East organized by Sciences Po from October 2024 to April 2025, Karim Émile Bitar (Sciences Po and Saint Joseph University of Beirut) will give the ninth lecture in the series, entitled "The Fateful Quadrangle: Lebanon, Syria, Hezbollah, and Israel, from 1982 to the Post-October 7 Era", on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The lecture will take place in person at the Paris campus from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Chapsal amphitheater, at 27 rue Saint-Guillaume, 75007, Paris.

Karim Émile Bitar is a Professor of International Relations and Former Director of the Institute of Political Science at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, lecturer in Middle East Studies at Sciences Po Paris, associate Fellow at the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS, Paris), at the Middle East Institute (MEI, Washington DC) and at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP). 

He is a specialist in the Middle East and U.S. foreign policy. Among his publications are Regards sur la France(with Robert Fadel, Seuil Editions, 2007) and Le Cèdre et le Chêne: De Gaulle et le Liban (with Clotilde de Fouchécour, Geuthner Editions, 2015). He was for many years the editor-in-chief of L’ENA hors les murs, the monthly magazine of the alumni of the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA).

He is also the co-founder and president of Kulluna Irada, a civic association advocating for political reform in Lebanon, and vice-president of the Circle of Arab Economists. He is affiliated with several think tanks, including the Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques (IRIS, Paris), the Middle East Institute (MEI, Washington, DC), and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).


The conference will be held in English.
