The School of Public Affairs and the Culture and Cultural Policy Policy stream are delighted to welcome the architect Shigeru Ban, one of the most prominent contemporary architects.
Awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2014, Shigeru Ban has established himself as one of the most distinctive and visionary figures in contemporary architecture. Renowned for his innovative use of materials — particularly timber and cardboard — he is equally recognised for his humanitarian commitment, carried out in collaboration with the United Nations and through his NGO, Voluntary Architects’ Network (VAN).
This humanistic approach has earned him, among other distinctions, the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice in 2017, as well as the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord in 2022.
From Paris to Tokyo, his emblematic works bear witness to remarkable inventiveness, including the poetic Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Oita Prefectural Art Museum, the Mount Fuji World Heritage Centre in Shizuoka, and the bold musical complex La Seine Musicale. Through each of his projects, Shigeru Ban combines beauty, sustainability and solidarity, redefining the contours of contemporary architecture and the way it can transform our world.
The conference will be held in English.
