How are public resources collected and spent? Taxation and public spending can have different impacts on women and men because of their different situations, needs and priorities in life. Policies which appear neutral on the surface may in fact increase gender inequalities.
For over 30 years, the Women’s Budget Group, an independent network of leading academic researchers, policy experts and campaigners, has examined the United Kingdom’s budget to highlight the differences of impact to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and transparency of government policies.
Mary-Ann Stephenson, director of the UK Women’s Budget Group, will explain how gender budget analysis can make significant contributions towards gender equality and the realization of women’s rights.
With:

  • Claire Guiraud, Secretary General for the Haut Conseil à l’Égalité, co-rapporteur of a notice on gender responsive budgeting “Avis sur le déploiement d’une budgétisation intégrant l’égalité femmes-hommes”
  • Fran Bennett, Senior Research and Teaching Fellow, Oxford University
  • Hélène Périvier, Senior Economist, OFCE-Sciences Po, director of Sciences Po’s Gender Studies programme PRESAGE.

This roundtable will be a strategic time to discuss gender responsive budgeting, its implications, and the framework necessary for its implementation.
