“60 Minutes with Carlos GHOSN“, Chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance

Moderation by  Ghassan SALAME, Dean of PSIA-Sciences Po

As head of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Mr. GHOSN leads two separate companies with combined annual sales of 8.06 million vehicles in 2012 – more than one in 10 cars worldwide. Together, the Alliance employs more than 390,000 employees in nearly 200 countries. Renault and Nissan enjoy the most productive and long-lasting cross-cultural combination among major automakers.

Mr. GHOSN joined Nissan as chief operating officer in June 1999 and became CEO in June 2001. He was the lead architect of the Nissan Revival Plan, which brought the company out of a severe economic crisis in the late ‘90s and back to profitability in 2000. In May 2005, when Mr. Ghosn became president and CEO of the French carmaker Renault, he became the first person to run two companies on the Fortune Global 500 simultaneously.

Born in Brazil and raised in Lebanon, Mr. GHOSN is the only major auto industry CEO who grew up in emerging markets. He has also been the industry’s most vocal advocate for sustainable transportation, and his companies are the first to have launched a suite of affordable zero-emission cars. The Nissan LEAF is the top-selling zero-emission car in history.
