Sciences Po among the world's top research institutions in economics

The 2016 Ideas Rankings for economics research have just been published. Computed using data from the RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) database, these rankings take into account scientific publications and citations from the past ten years. Sciences Po ranks among the top five percent of economics research institutions in the world alongside Harvard (in first place), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the London School of Economics (LSE).

SCIENCES PO RANKS HIGH

Sciences Po ranks 34th for economics research worldwide in terms of the number of our researchers featured in the top five percent. Sciences Po sits at second place among French institutions, ahead of the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) (38th) and the Aix-Marseille School of Economics (72nd).

OUR ECONOMISTS AT THE FORE

Eleven economics researchers from Sciences Po’s Department of Economics and the French Economic Observatory are listed among the top five percent of economists in the world. This is a remarkable achievement given the relatively small size of the Sciences Po Department of Economics. The department, which was established in 2009, has 19 permanent researchers and has obtained seven European Research Council grants* in total. Furthermore, four of these researchers have received the prize for best young French economist.

The Ideas rankings for economics research are based on bibliographic data from the RePEc (Research papers in economics) database, which contains 4,300 working papers and around two million articles published in 2,300 journals. RePEc data is combined with the CitEc (Citations in economics) database for citation analysis and the EDIRC (Economics departments, institutes and research centers in the world) database, which lists more than 47,000 economists and the institutions to which they belong (a little over 7,000).
