Institute for the Arts and Creation
A bold vision for tomorrow's challenges
The Institute for the Arts and Creation redefines the role of the arts in education and research across the humanities and social sciences. Launched in March 2023, this pioneering initiative aims to ignite original approaches to today’s most pressing issues, encouraging imagination, focus, crossed perspectives, and a spirit of engaged citizenship.
From creative writing to cinema, performing and visual arts, the Institute offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment. Through events, performances and hands-on creative workshops, it sparks meaningful dialogue between artists, academic communities as well as with the public sphere. Its experimental approach is designed to transform how we teach, learn and collectively imagine.
Discover the Institute:
- Four artist-in-residence chairs, in writing, cinema, performing arts and visual arts that bring creative minds into the heart of academia
- Weekly workshops to unlock the students’ creative potential
- Immersive writing retreats for deep, focused artistic practice
- Exchange sessions for teachers interested in transforming teaching and learning methods integrating the arts
- Collaborative projects and partnerships bridging the arts, humanities and social sciences, such as Nature in the City
- Encounters with artists for high school students in the Equal Opportunity Programme (CEP)
- Public events that foster dialogue, diversity and creativity
The arts cultivate focus, open-mindedness, critical thinking and imagination, while helping students step back from immediacy, embrace uncertainty and develop crossed perspectives based on alterity.
To make this approach part of students’ everyday experience, the Institute offers :
- Workshops : Create with artists to cross inspirations and perspectives through artistic practice and to develop new skills in writing, reading, music, theater, dance, film, photography and visual arts.
- Conversations : Learn to multiply perspectives by joining a community passionate about the arts, through masterclasses, discussions, concerts, performances and screenings.
The Institute contributes to ignite, document and spread educational methods that integrate the arts to support an active pedagogy, and develop students’ cognitive and creative skills. It engages with teachers across all disciplines who wish to incorporate the arts into their teaching, whether it be in the course material, the course structure or by encouraging artistic practice in their classrooms.
Integrate the arts to your teaching with :
- Faculty support : Individual and group support to integrate arts into your teaching and to leverage the creativity of your students.
- Teaching insights : Share experiences and seek inspiration for your teaching with fellow teachers.
- Tools and resources : Discover audio and video recordings and other artistic works which can be integrated into your courses.
Throughout the academic year, the Institute hosts a wide range of events and conversations, open to everyone and with no registration fee. These gatherings offer opportunities to join a community passionate about the arts, through masterclasses, discussions, concerts, performances and screenings.
Events are mostly held in French, but also in English, particularly when we welcome leading international artists. For example, we have hosted several English-speaking authors, whose talks are available to watch again:
