“Let's not part our souls!”
In April 2016, the Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) held the inaugural Youth and Leaders Talks. One of the speakers was Nikita Singla, a PSIA student from India. She shared her experience of being a young Indian woman determined to travel to Pakistan and urged the audience to “cross borders”.
GOAL: PAKISTAN
Nikita chose to speak about the first time she travelled outside India, leaving her home country for a student exchange programme in Douai, France. She explained how she developed a passion for travel during her stay in Europe: “the soul inside me had been bitten by the travel bug for the rest of my life”.
But when she returned to Asia, Nikita realised that crossing borders is not as easy in other parts of the world as it is in Europe. In her speech, she described the difficulties she had to overcome to cross the border between India and Pakistan.
Her account full of wonderful memories was also a plea for the erasure of borders: “Let’s at least make this small attempt to make this world more beautiful and a little smaller. Our soils are parted, let’s not part our souls”.
TALKING DIVERSITY
The Youth and Leaders Talks is a unique event designed by and for students at PSIA. These talks attested once again to the great diversity of backgrounds and profiles that characterises the student body at Sciences Po.
Watch the speeches of Carolina Brandão, Piroshin Moodley, Nadia Noumri, Mehrdad Pourzakikhani, Mariana Ruenes de la Fuente and Nikita Singla.
