Joseph Stiglitz on the importance of trust in economics

On 10 June 2016, Sciences Po held a thematic workshop on "Measuring Trust and Social Capital" in collaboration with the OECD and the High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress.

The event was attended by academics, students and policy analysts interested in the latest research on measuring social capital and trust. Participants assessed the impacts of social capital and trust on well-being, moving beyond the notions of economic capital and labour. As Joseph Stiglitz put it, trust is “a kind of glue that makes society function”.

The event was organised by the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs and the Sciences Po Department of Economics. It was held with the financial support of the European Research Council under the European Community’s Horizon H2020 Programme for Yann Algan's ERC project SOWELL.
