150 Sciences Po students at the Paris Peace Forum
Sciences Po is proud to be one of the eight founding members of the Paris Peace Forum, a global platform for governance projects spearheaded by President Emmanuel Macron (FR). For its second edition which took place on 11, 12 and 13 November 2019, over 30 Heads of State and Government were joined by numerous leaders of international organisations, companies and various actors of civil society to discuss and debate global governance solutions. 150 students of the Paris School of International Affairs volunteered at the event.
The mission of this international meeting was to promote global governance solutions in six major areas:
- Peace & Security
- Development
- Environment
- New Technologies
- Inclusive Economy
- Culture & Education
Inspired by the COP 21 model, the Paris Peace Forum is a symposium for discussion and debate, but also a space for showcasing innovative projects from across the globe led by various stakeholders in governance, including international organisations, NGOs, think tanks, universities, companies and individuals, with a special emphasis on civil society initiatives.
For its second edition, the Call for Projects of the Paris Peace Forum received more than 700 project submissions from 115 countries and led by a wide panel of actors of global governance, such as states, international organisations, NGOs, companies, foundations, philanthropic organizations, development agencies, religious groups, trade unions, think tanks and universities. The Selection Committee, in which Sciences Po is represented, evaluated all submissions and made its choice based on a geographically balanced representation.
The forum’s rich programme also included over 60 panels and roundtables on topics pertaining to global governance. Enrico Letta, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs and Former Prime Minister of Italy, is participating in the panel "BEYOND POVERTY: SDGS FOR ALL – INCLUDING THE BOTTOM MILLIONS", and Vanessa Scherrer, Vice President of International Affairs at Sciences Po and Vice President of the Paris Peace Forum's Executive Committee, is participating in the panel "ALARMISM IS NOT ENOUGH: CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION".
