Event in English

Through the lens of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and France’s role within it, we examine the relevance and effectiveness of international social regulation in today’s age of (de)globalization. We will explore how international social standards can adapt to contemporary challenges such as the rise of protectionism and new forms of work, while addressing the social issues posed by demographic shifts, digitalization, and decarbonization. By examining the origins and evolution of regulatory mechanisms, we will also analyze the geopolitical and societal obstacles hindering their implementation. Finally, we will discuss how these norms are applied in national contexts and the tensions between cultural relativism and the universality of labour rights.

Speaker: Anousheh Karvar / French Government Representative to the ILO and to the G7-G20 Labour & Employment

Moderator: Bruno Palier / Scientific Advisor of the Social Policy and Social Innovation stream
