How to stay influential in a changing European institutional environment?
About this event
19 November 2014 from 16:00 until 17:30
As part of the Rencontres européennes de Sciences Po
Conference with Daniel Guéguen, Founder and Head of Strategy and Lobbying of PACT European Affairs
The Treaty of Lisbon and new institutional practices have radically changed the EU decision making process, thus transforming EU lobby in a more complex, legal, opaque and ad-hoc exercise. Traditionally based on technical competences and on an appropriate network, European lobbying is now a brain-driven job involving procedural understanding, sophisticated strategies and strong communication skills.
With nearly 40 years of experience in EU public affairs, Daniel Guéguen is founder and Head of Strategy and Lobbying of PACT European Affairs, an independent consultancy specialized in EU Public Affairs, in particular secondary legislation. In 1996 he created CLAN Public Affairs and the European Training Institute.
Before this, Daniel Guéguen was Head of the European sugar industry and Secretary General of COPA-COGECA, the EU farmers’ union lobby.
Daniel Guéguen is a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges as well as at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and previously at Georgetown University and Harvard Kennedy School.
He is a renowned author of 15 books translated into 20 languages. Recent publications include:
“Comitology: Hijacking European power” (2010), “Handbook on EU Secondary Legislation” (2012) and “Reshaping European Lobbying” (2013).
