Has the West lost it? An Asian perspective
About this event
05 April 2018 from 17:00 until 18:30
A lecture with Dr Kishore Mahbubani, Professor in the Practice of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, where he also served as Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy from 2004 to 2017. He is the co-author of The ASEAN Miracle. A Catalyst for Peace (NUS Press, 2017).
Introduction by Enrico Letta, Dean of Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs.
The two centuries of Western domination of world history is coming to a natural end. China and India will return to their natural positions as the two top economic powers of the world by 2050. However, this is not bad news for the West.
The rest of the world, especially Asia, has progressed by adopting many Western ideas, ideals and best practices. Asia is ready to cooperate with the West. However, for this to happen, the West has to make significant strategic adjustments. It can no longer try to dominate global processes and institutions unilaterally. It must learn to share power.
The goal of this lecture is to suggest that despite contemporary pessimism in the West, we can create a better world that will work for both the West and the Asia. The lecture will also suggest some new strategies for the West.
