Global governance: are Europe and Asia on the same line?

About this event

24 October 2012 from 17:00 until 18:30

Rencontres européennes de Sciences Po (RESP)

Guest speakers:

Yves TIBERGHIEN, Associate Professor, UBC Vancouver et Sciences Po, MPA
Zaki LAIDI, Research Professor, Sciences Po, CEE-Sciences Po (discussant)

The 2008 financial crisis and the ensuing Euro crisis have demonstrated that global markets have outgrown the global institutions that are in place to monitor and manage them. At the same time, the world is in the midest of the greatest rebalancing of the balance of power since World War Two.

In this context of great volatility and revamping of global governance, is China a threat to Europe? What does China expect and want from rules of global governance? Is there a common ground for Europe and China to cooperate? The presentation builds on Y. TIBERGHIEN’s new book (l’Asie et le futur du monde, Sciences Po Press) and focuses on the case of the G20, with comparisons to a few more arenas of global economic and environmental governance.
