Sciences Po Launches the Paris Climate School, the First European School Dedicated to Ecological Transition

The Paris Climate School will be the first European school to offer a degree in humanities and social sciences dedicated to ecological transition.

A centre of interdisciplinary excellence combining training, research and expertise, the Paris Climate School aims to train the next generation of public and private decision-makers capable of leading the environmental transformation of our societies.

In Response to the Climate Emergency

2024 was the hottest year on record, surpassing +1.5°C.

In such a context of aggravated climate crisis, it is time to acknowledge that:

  • We all know how serious our common situation is, yet our societies are at a standstill, unable to act and transform themselves,
  • We have to make a drastic shift from seeking uniquely technical solutions to an issue that is social and political at its core,
  • Only 0.18% of environmental research is led by social scientists, although the humanities and social sciences are essential to carry out environmental change.

« It is an honour to become the Dean of Sciences Po's Paris Climate School. I am thrilled to launch this new programme, which comes at a pivotal moment for the future of our planet and our societies. Faced with the ecological emergency, it is essential to train a new generation of leaders who can think and act differently. Sciences Po can become a world-class player on climate change by combining academic excellence, interdisciplinarity, and civic engagement. »

Laurence Tubiana

Dean of the Paris Climate School

A Groundbreaking Project

The Paris Climate School offers a cutting-edge master’s programme designed to equip students with:

  • A systemic and multiscale understanding of ecological transition and risks,
  • Strong professional competencies (in law, economics, finance, public policy, and governance, etc.),
  • Practical decision-making tools adapted to complex, uncertain, real-world environments.

Beyond the classroom, the Paris Climate School will serve as a hub for academic, institutional, and professional exchange on climate action – in the heart of Paris.

Our Expert Advisors

The Paris Climate School has been shaped through a preliminary mission led by its Dean Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation and architect of the Paris Agreement, and Sophie Dubuisson-Quellier, Head of Sciences Po Centre for the Sociology of Organisations and Research Director at the CNRS, who sits on the French High Council on Climate.

This mission brought together 30+ prominent figures from across all sectors such as Valérie Masson Delmotte (IPCC), Sébastien Treyer (IDDRI), Pascal Demurger (MAIF) or Jean Pisani-Ferry (I4CE).
