Sébastien Treyer has been Director General of IDDRI since January 2019, as well as President of the Scientific and Technological Committee of French Funds for the Global Environment (FFEM) and member of the Lead Faculty of the Earth System Governance network. A former student of the École Polytechnique, a chief engineer for bridges, waters and forests, and a Doctor of environment management, he has been in charge of foresight at for the Minister of the Environment, and has played an active role in the intersection between science, politics, and scientific programming alongside the European Commission, the National Agency for Research, and regional agents, such as the Water Agency of Seine-Normandy.
