Patric Chamoiseau, new writer in residence

Following on from Kamel Daoud and Marie Darrieussecq, Patrick Chamoiseau was the next writer in residence at Sciences Po. Winner of the Prix Goncourt in 1992, as well as many other literary awards, Patrick Chamoiseau is the author of novels, short stories, essays and screenplays. He began teaching Sciences Po students in January 2020.

A conference was held on Monday 27 January 2020 to mark the handover from Marie Darrieussecq to Patrick Chamoiseau. Their discussion was moderated by Delphine Grouès, Dean of the Institute for Skills and Innovation. After an opening address by Patrick Chamoiseau on the topic "The storyteller, the night-time and the basket", the writers discussed the importance of writing, languages, the imaginary world and their role as Sciences Po’s writer in residence.

The first initiative of its kind in the French university landscape, the writer in residence chair was created in 2018 to enhance our students’ creative expression and help them develop original and critical reflection. The chair falls under the responsibility of Sciences Po’s Writing and Rhetoric Centre.
