Maylis de Kerangal, new writer in residence

Following on from Kamel Daoud, Marie Darrieussecq and Patrick Chamoiseau, Maylis de Kerangal is the new writer in residence at Sciences Po.

Winner of the Prix Médicis for Naissance d’un pont (Birth of a Bridge), and many other literary awards, Maylis de Kerangal has written both novels and short stories, several of which have been adapted for cinema.
Since September 2020, Maylis de Kerangal has been running two writing workshops for Sciences Po students.

A conference was held on Monday 28 September 2020 to mark the handover from Patrick Chamoiseau to Maylis de Kerangal. After an opening address by Maylis de Kerangal, entitled “Writing as though we are going to a country where we don’t speak the language”, the two writers discussed their inspiration, the importance of imagination, the relationship between reality and fiction, and their role as writer in residence at Sciences Po.

The first initiative of its kind in the French university landscape, the writer in residence chair was created in 2018 to enhance our students’ creative expression and help them develop original and critical reflection. The chair falls under the responsibility of Sciences Po’s Writing and Rhetoric Centre.
