Conference with philosopher Bernard Stiegler

On August 30th, at 5pm, French philosopher Bernard Stiegler will attend the Sciences Po School of Management and Innovation as a guest of honour for the opening ceremony of the academic year.

Bernard Stiegler’s keynote address, “Beyond the Anthropocene? The New Wealth of Nations,” will be followed by a roundtable discussion on rethinking prosperity with several panelists, including: Jérôme Guillet, representing Green Giraffe, a renewable energy financial consultancy; Mathilde Aglietta, representing Ashoka, an NGO for social change; David Menascé, representing Azeo, a digital development consultancy; and Constance Guisset, a French designer. The event will be available via Livestream.

Bernard Stiegler is director of the Institut de recherche et d'innovation (IRI) at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and founder of the association Ars Industrialis. He is a professor at the University of Technology of Compiègne (France), visiting professor at Brown University (US) and distinguished professor at Nanjing University (China).

He has also taught at the University of London, at the University of Cambridge (UK), at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) and at Northwestern University (US). In 2010 he founded the online philosophy school pharmakon.fr.

Under the supervision of French philosopher Jacques Derrida at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Bernard Stiegler submitted his doctoral thesis in philosophy, La technique et le temps (Technics and Time) in 1993. Adopting a point of view that some would describe as post-phenomenological and incorporating questions arising from cybernetics, information technology, theoretical computer science and contemporary anthropology, Stiegler's work focuses on current processes of transformation — social, political, economic, psychological and aesthetic — arising from technological development and in particular digital technologies.
