Aurélie Luneau is an historian, specialising in the history of radio. She has a PhD in history and graduated from Science Po Bordeaux. She wrote a thesis on “The BBC and the French, from Listening to Action, 1940-1944 “, under the direction of Professor François-Charles Mougel. Her research work, which investigates the role of radio in the civil resistance, is based on written and audio archives and has been published under the title “Radio Londres, les voix de la Liberté 1940-1944" (Radio London, the Voices of Freedom 1940-1944), published by Perrin in 2005 and Poche tempus in 2010.

The book has won a number of prizes, including the Inathèque prize, Ecrivains combattants, History Committee of Radio, and the Philippe Viannay prize. In 2009, she contributed to an album for young readers called “Ici Londres” (This is London) (Editions du Rouergue), which puts the secret messages aimed at members of the resistance in France into pictures.

She is also the author of the highly acclaimed books “Je vous écris de France” (Letters from France), published by L’Iconoclaste in 2016, « As a German in France » with Stefan Martens et Jeanne Guérout (L’Iconoclaste, 2016), “Maurice Genevoix, a biography”, with Jacques Tassin (Flammarion 2019). Her latest book is “L’Appel du 18 juin” (The Call of June 18th), published by Flammarion in June 2020.

Aurélie has worked for France Culture radio since 1995, beginning as a contributor for the programme “L’Histoire en direct” (History Live). She was deputy producer for “La fabrique de l’Histoire” (Making History) between 1999 and 2009, winning two prestigious awards, the Gilson Prize and the Franco-German prize for journalism.

She was head of the morning show “Les matins de France Culture” during the summers of 2006 and 2007, and was a producer on the science programme “La marche des sciences” (The March of Science) between 2009 and 2016. She has also produced a large number of radio documentaries.

She is now the producer of the weekly environment programme “De cause à effets”, which takes an in-depth look at environmental issues to understand the changes in our planet and the fundamentals of a society in transition.

She is also co-author with Jean Bulot of the web series “The Great Speeches”, broadcast on Arte.fr since July 2017.

Aurélie Luneau has been a member of the consulting panel for Arte’s programmes since 2013, and a member of the jury of the Resistance literature prize since 2018.

She has been awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite (meaning she is a knight of the French National Order of Merit).
