Two capstone groups of students at Sciences Po's Urban School, presented their project with their partner at the 11th World Urban Forum, which took place in Katowice, Poland, at the end of June 2022.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) is the world’s premier conference on urban issues. It was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. This year, the WUF was co-organized by UN-Habitat, Poland’s Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy and the Municipal Office of Katowice.

Alice Duret, Agathe Petiot, Rocio Calzado and Gaëlle Peschoux, students from the master Governing Ecological Transitions in European Cities, realised a capstone with the FNAU (the French National Federation of Urban Planning Agencies). The aim of their project was to produce a critical and comparative reflection on Urban Agendas: to understand their functioning, their content, their governance and their application. They presented their work at the French Pavilion on June 27th and in a round-table with UN-Habitat and the European Union on June 28th.

As for André da Vila, Alejandro Lerma, Laurène Lucy, Clémence Raffard and Mathilde Rouvillois, students from the master Governing the Large Metropolis, they realised a capstone project led by NIUA within the CITIIS program co-funded by the AFD (Agence francaise de Développement) and the European Union, entitled “Framework for Ecological Transition through Urban Waterfront Projects in emerging economies” which involved the study of projects in Agartala (Tripura), Hubballi-Dharwad (Karnataka) and Surat (Gujarat).

Two of them, Mathilde and André, were at the National Institute of Urban Affairs pavilion to talk about it at the panel discussion “CITIIS - An Urban Innovation Sandbox for Building Sustainable Cities” on June 29th 2022.
