Sciences Po joined the HeforShe movement in June 2015, when Frédéric Mion became the only IMPACT 10x10x10 champion at a French university. On the 3rd April 2019, Sciences Po hosted a HeforShe panel discussion with various champions to talk about change at an institutional level, share the progress made, and pass on the baton to the younger generation in the battle for gender equality.
Following Frédéric Mion’s opening address, Elizabeth Nyamayaro, Senior Advisor to Under-Secretary-General & Executive Director, UN Women, spoke about the progress of the HeforShe cause so far and what each of us can do to help make further societal change.
At the round-table discussion with Frédéric Mion were other HeForShe champions and their representatives including: Franck Gervais, CEO AccorHotels Europe, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, CEO BNP Paribas, and Bertrand Austruy, Executive VP, HR and General Secretary, for Danone. Discussion started with equality surrounding paternity leave, and then progressed to the gender pay-gap more generally, and finally the under-representation of women in certain professional spheres, like the banking & finance sectors, for example.
We asked students their thoughts on HeForShe and the progress made for gender equality. Here are their answers.
