Irène Morillon: "I will never regret choosing Sciences Po"
Meet Irène Morillon, a second-year student at Sciences Po's Undergraduate College in Nancy. A musician, keen on baroque art, she shares her passion for culture through the organisation of many events at the heart of her campus, in parallel with her studies.
YOU ARE CURRENTLY A SECOND-YEAR STUDENT AT THE NANCY CAMPUS. CAN YOU SHARE YOUR ACADEMIC PATH AND THE REASONS WHICH MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS COURSE?
Originally from Nantes, I have just completed a course in a special timetable section with the Conservatoire de Musique and the Lycée international Nelson Mandela. I have studied at the Conservatoire since the age of 5 and have always lived in an environment where music was very important.
In this institution, I had the chance to receive a very varied musical training: private lessons in recorder and harpsichord, vocal technique, chamber music ensemble, orchestra, solfeggio, composition and analysis lessons, choir, etc. In addition, Nantes is a great city for its cultural offer (concerts, operas, etc.) and I took full advantage of it.
So, I went to Sciences Po with the ambition of training for public administration in the cultural sector. As for the choice of the Nancy campus of the Undergraduate College to start my Bachelor’s degree, it became obvious after an exchange in a high school in Germany where I loved my schooling, the rhythm of life and learning German. I will never regret this choice because thanks to the Kampusgeist and the strong support of the Nancy campus' administration, I had the chance to organise a few events on my campus this year.
You are very involved in Student life at Sciences Po. President OF THE ORGANIsING COMMITTEE FOR THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF YOUR CAMPUS AND CO-PRESIDENT OF THE BUREAU DES ARTS, YOU ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE ORGANISATION OF the COLLÉGIADES 2022. WHAT DOES THE CONCEPT OF COMMITMENT REPRESENT FOR YOU AS A STUDENT ?
Indeed, I had the great opportunity to organise the Collégiades Tournament 2022 (fr) ; the 20th anniversary of my campus and to promote the cultural programme of the campus with the whole of the Bureau des Arts!
It is a great pleasure for me to be able to exercise so many responsibilities. My commitment as a student is a combination of two elements: on the one hand, the personal investment of time, energy and mental workload, and on the other hand, the responsibility to give rhythm to the life of my campus by organising quality events for all.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A STUDENT WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN SCIENCES PO'S UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE?
Work, without hesitation! Work as hard as you can during your high school years and put your heart and soul into the activities that really matter. It takes a lot of energy and determination to get to the Undergraduate College, but even more to thrive on a campus, so you might as well prepare early!
WHAT ARE YOUR UNIVERSITY AND/OR PROFESSIONAL PROJECTS AFTER GRADUATING from your Bachelor's Degree?
I have many projects that all converge towards a single professional ambition: to join the teams of Château Versailles Spectacles, which is the private subsidiary of the castle in charge of organising events. Since my musical training in Early Music at the Conservatoire, I have been very passionate about Baroque art and the cultural events sector, especially for the performing arts, a sector I had access to very early on, particularly during my internships at the Roque d'Anthéron piano festival and at the Arts Florissants.
In this perspective, I have several ambitions to pursue my studies: either to join the Dual Degree with École du Louvre at the School of Public Affairs, or continue with a master's degree in Public Affairs, Cultural Policy and Management, in order to prepare for the civil service exams.
