Congratulations to Manisha Anantharaman, recognised for her work.

Manisha Anantharaman, Assistant Professor at the Centre for the Sociology of Organisations, has received two international awards for her book published in 2024, ‘Recycling Class: The contradictions of inclusion in urban sustainability’ by MIT Press.

Based on several years of fieldwork in India, she analyses the activities of waste collectors and sorters in the Indian city of Bengaluru. The aim is to understand how they can unite to establish a sustainable system.

Considered exceptional by the American Sociological Association, this book was awarded an honourable mention in the ‘Sociology of Development’ section. For its part, the International Studies Association awarded it its 2025 book prize for studies on global development.
