About this event

Ecole UrbaineThis roundtable is part of the Nature in the city annual event 2025 “Urban Nature at the Margins: Contested Climate Adaptation Governance in Urban Informality”
As cities face mounting climate challenges, informal settlements remain largely invisible in adaptation planning—despite generating innovative, community-led solutions. This roundtable brings together leading scholars and practitioners to explore how knowledge about urban nature and informality can reshape global climate policy.
Speakers:
- Marie Hanagata (OECD)
- Julie Greenwalt (Cities alliance)
- Anna Walnycki (IIED)
- Niki Frantzeskaki (Utrecht University)
- Vicente Ugalde (Colmex)
Chair: Francesca Ferlicca (Urban School, Sciences Po)
The discussion will examine structural barriers to scaling community-led climate solutions, the politics of knowledge production, innovations in climate finance, and what needs to change in frameworks like IPCC and COP processes to genuinely center marginalized urban populations—especially looking ahead to COP30 in Belém.
Format includes expert exchanges and 30 minutes for audience Q&A.
