Policy Evaluation is at the heart of the debate about democratic transparency and the rationalization of political decisions. Principles such as efficiency, performance, and the balance between costs and benefits are regularly mentioned by international, European, national, and local actors as being crucial in political decision-making mechanisms. For students who, tomorrow, will participate in the design and implementation of policies, understanding these issues is essential. The three speakers who will lead this meeting stand at the crossroads between the academic debate and the practice of policy evaluation at the international, European and national level. Their accounts will help students to understand how impact evaluation permeates the functioning of our institutions and what is the added value of a scientific approach when defining notions such as of efficiency and performance.
Speakers:
- María Aránzazu Rodriguez (Research and Policy Manager, J-PAL Paris)
- Leonardo Zanobetti (Policy Analyst, EU Commission)
- Elena Cossu (Post-doc at Sciences Po’s Centre for European Studies and Comparative, ex-Senior Policy Evaluation Researcher, National Centre for Social Research, UK).
