Jean Moulin Amphitheatre
13 rue de l'Université, 75007, ParisIn-person Masterclass held in English and organized as part of the “Masterclasses Culture” of the School of Public Affairs.
On November 8, Stock Editions will publish Sofi Oksanen’s new book: Same River Twice – Putin’s War against Women. In this context, Sciences Po is very pleased and honored to organize a discussion with:
- Sofi Oksanen, Author
- Manuel Carcassonne, Director of the publishing house Stock
- Raphaëlle Liebaert, Editorial director
Why one of the most awarded literary authors in Scandinavia, internationally known for her novels and playwrights, chose to publish a literary essay on Russian colonialism and sexual violence? What is the role of literature in depicting war’s realities, oppression and dehumanizing process? Can literature confront the imperialist past and definitely change our cultural memory? Is it a way to ensure justice? How can arts help to promote human rights but also improve gender equality and women’s cause?
This master class will be a unique opportunity to discuss Sofi Oksanen’s texts, her collaboration with her editors, but it will also raise questions about the role of literature and the power of arts in a very complex international context.
A discussion moderated by Florence Botello, Academic Advisor for the Culture / Cultural Policy & Management stream of the School of Public Affairs, with students from the stream.
