During the 10th Edition of the Youth & Leaders Summit, PSIA students had the opportunity to participate in a debate on “Do we still need the UN?”. One clear point of consensus for all the distinguished speakers and PSIA students, was that the UN Charter indeed needs to be reformed.
Lo and behold, a team of experts has started some serious work. And, on 14 February 2025, PSIA is pleased to welcome Dr Augusto Lopez-Carlos, Executive Director and Chair of the Global Governance Forum, who presents the project A Second United Nations Charter: Modernizing the UN for a New Generation.
The event, moderated by Full Professor Frédéric Ramel, enabled a group of PSIA second year students to present their reactions and proposals for various components of the Second Charter.
All PSIA students were invited to join the discussion by providing their own reactions to the document based on these readings:
- The introduction to the project: A Second United Nations Charter: Modernizing the UN for a New Generation by a team of experts convened by the Global Governance Forum
- Summary of the proposed elements of the new UN Charter
- The actual text of the “Second United Nations Charter” proposed by Global Governance Forum
