PSIA had the pleasure to welcome Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under‑Secretary‑General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, for a 60‑minute session moderated by PSIA Dean Arancha González. The Under‑Secretary‑General delivered a keynote on “Moral Ambition in a Driverless World,” which set the stage for an exchange with PSIA students.

Biography:
Tom Fletcher has extensive experience leading and transforming organizations, with senior roles across diplomacy, government, and global education. He previously served as Global Strategy Director at the Global Business Coalition for Education (2015–2019), where he also led work with former Prime Minister Gordon Brown on refugee education.
Tom Fletcher served as the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Lebanon (2011–2015), as Foreign and Development Policy Adviser to three UK Prime Ministers (2007–2011), and as the Prime Ministers’ mediator on Northern Ireland. His diplomatic career has included close work with the United Nations and senior postings across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including Head of the Middle East Peace Process at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, postings in Nairobi and Paris, and senior roles in London.
An internationally recognized communicator, he is the author of several books and a frequent media contributor on diplomacy, development, technology, and democracy, combining technocratic expertise with public diplomacy.
