Sciences Po Students Attended CIVICA Honours Seminars Across 4 European Cities

Sciences Po is a founding member of CIVICA, the European University of Social Sciences, an alliance that unites ten leading European higher education institutions.

In June, nine master's students from Sciences Po participated in the prestigious CIVICA Honours Seminars (HS) held across Europe. These immersive and intensive seminars offer students a unique opportunity to engage with crucial global topics through interdisciplinary and transnational approaches.

Here’s an overview of the four seminars and feedback from our students.

Four seminars across Europe

CEU: European Roma Rights and Policies

Under the guidance of Professors Angéla Kóczé and Mathias Möschel, the CEU seminar in Vienna offered an in-depth exploration of Roma rights and policies in Europe. Participants learned about the protection, guarantees, and limitations of Roma rights by various international actors, enhancing their understanding of human rights frameworks and the multi-layered issues faced by Roma communities.

SGH Warsaw: New Era of Europe

Led by Professor Eliza Przeździecka, the seminar at SGH Warsaw delved into contemporary economic relations in Europe, influenced by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Discussions included the historical and current conditions of economic cooperation within and beyond Europe, providing students with a comprehensive view of Europe’s geo-economic landscape.

SNSPA: Strategic Integration, Managing Organisational Sustainability and Digital Transformation

Held under the coordination of Professor Dr. Florina Pinzaru, this seminar at SNSPA in Bucharest focused on the complexities of strategic integration, organisational sustainability, and digital transformation. Students engaged with theory, case studies, debates, and interactive activities, enriching their understanding of these critical areas.

SSE: Changing the World through Negotiations and Leadership

Directed by Professor Andrew Schenkel, this seminar at SSE in Stockholm focused on negotiation and leadership skills essential for driving change. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks and practical exercises, students improved their negotiation and leadership effectiveness, crucial for achieving environmental and democratic objectives.

Student Feedback

Our students provided enthusiastic feedback, highlighting the enriching experiences and diverse perspectives gained:

  • Rebecca Basso (MA Human Rights and Humanitarian Action at PSIA, attended the HS at CEU, Vienna): “Sharing this journey with a diverse group of participants enriched the debate and fostered profound connections. The teachings of our instructors greatly enhanced my capacity to engage with Roma Rights and Policies from different perspectives.”
  • Franziska Kaendler (MA European Affairs at the School of Public Affairs, attended the HS at SGH Warsaw): “The engagement with students from other universities, especially from Northern and Eastern Europe and Ukraine, led to enriching debates on digitalisation, the green transition, and EU enlargement.”
  • Petar Petkov (MA Finance and Strategy at the School of Management and Impact, attended the HS at SNSPA, Bucharest): “The international mix of students brought diverse perspectives to discussions on transitions. The guest speakers provided valuable insights on challenges related to new sustainable business models. It was a well-structured and engaging seminar.”
  • Meili Vergnolle (MA International Governance and Diplomacy at PSIA, attended the HS at SSE, Stockholm): “I feel very grateful for this chance to participate in the insightful negotiation seminar.

Congratulations to all our students for their active participation and contributions, reflecting the academic excellence and values of Sciences Po.
