Understanding the new dynamics of India-China relations

Addessing current relations between India and China, Ambassador Kanwal SIBAL, the former Foreign Secretary to the Government of India (July 2002—November 2003), will discuss the recent visit in India of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, as well as the prospects for a border settlement and economic ties.
Looking ahead, he will also examine China’s policies in India’s neighbourhood, Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean, and the larger issue of India and China in Asia. Finally, Ambassador Sibal will present the Indian perspective on US-China relations and discuss the potential of RIC and BRICSA.

Mr Kanwal SIBAL, the Foreign Secretary to the Government of India (July 2002-November 2003) began his rich and diverse career in France.
Mr. Sibal has served as India’s Ambassador to Turkey (1998-2002), Egypt (1995-1998), France (1998-2002), and Russia (2004-2007). He was also the Deputy Chief of Mission in the United States (1992-1995), and represented the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in Tanzania and Napal.
