Presentation of the European Regional Economic Outlook by the International Monetary Fund

About this event

13 May 2011 from 13:00 until 15:00

The recovery in Europe is gaining ground, but downside risks remain. Domestic demand is strengthening in advanced Europe, but it remains weak in the euro area periphery. As financial markets remain apprehensive of sovereign debt burdens and banking fragility, policy makers need to take bold steps to restore confidence-structural reforms, fiscal consolidation and strengthening of the financial system, most notably in the euro area periphery.

Céline ALLARD, currently Deputy Division Chief in the European Department of the IMF, in the Euro Area and EU Policies division will present the REO. She joined the IMF in 2001 and has worked on a number of European countries, both advanced and in transition. Her interests are on economic modeling, structural reforms, competitiveness and exchange rate dynamics. Before joining the IMF, she worked at the French ministry of finance on growth forecasting and European coordination. She holds a post-graduate degree from the Sorbonne University and graduate degrees from Paris Graduate School of Economics, Statistics and Finance (ENSAE) and from Ecole Polytechnique.

Céline Allard will be discussed by Philippe MARTIN, Professor of Economics and Director of the Department of Economics at Sciences Po.

This event is organised by the Paris School of International Affairs-Sciences Po; the Department of Economics of Sciences Po and the International Monetary Fund.
