The Evaluation of Democracy research group of the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Evaluation of Public Policies (LIEPP) is launching a call for expressions of interest to develop research projects on democracy evaluation based on data sciences, in partnership with the Data Intelligence Institute of Paris (UPC).

The aim of this call for expressions of interest is to identify researchers from Sciences Po and the Université Paris Cité (UPC) who are interested in using data science tools to study the relation to institutions or the democratic nature of public policies. These tools include, but are not limited to, the analysis of large databases, the analysis of texts, networks, images and videos, and the analysis of geographical data.

The call is open to any research question on these themes. The only requirement is that the project be based on existing data.

Interested researchers are invited to send a short presentation of the project they would like to carry out (no more than one page), specifying the research question and the data to be analysed (type of data and data accessibility). Projects will then be discussed individually and presented to members of the Data Intelligence Institute of Paris at the autumn 2024 as a basis to establishing research collaborations.

In this context, two M2 research internship projects carried out by data science students, co-supervised with a researcher from the Data Intelligence Institute of Paris, will be selected to be fully funded by LIEPP in the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. It is not necessary to have identified an M2 student to carry out the project at this stage, and this may be done in the autumn in collaboration with members of the Data Intelligence Institute of Paris.

Proposals must be submitted using the online form by July 31st 2024 at the latest.
