Organized by

Sciences Po American Foundation

The Sciences Po American Foundation request the pleasure of your company at the WASHINGTON BENEFIT DINNER honoring Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France to the U.S. on TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 2019 at the Résidence of France in Washington DC.

Araud grew up in Marseille, graduated from France’s top universities, and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the early eighties. During his more than thirty-year career in diplomacy, he has served as France’s ambassador to Israel, a Middle East expert for the French Embassy in D.C., permanent representative to the United Nations in New York and, most recently as Ambassador of France to the United States. After 36 years in diplomacy and 13 years on American soil, Gérard Araud will be retiring from his position in the spring.

Araud, a life-long French diplomat is perhaps the most remarked upon foreign diplomat the US capital has seen in years. Araud’s style of diplomacy has been, at times, a little untraditionally diplomatic. Vogue called him outspoken, the New York Times said his tweeting was “zesty undiplomatic diplomacy.”
