Coming from a family that has resisted the Israeli occupation in Masafer Yatta for three generations, Sami Huraini co-founded the Youth of Sumud movement and leads non-violent popular resistance against military and settler violence. Sami received the award Front Line Defenders in 2021, is a field researcher for Al-Haq and a member of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Coordination Committee (PSCC).
During the event, he will elaborate on Palestinian peaceful resistance in the West Bank and on Israel's repression, drawing from his experience as a human rights defender who is being targeted because of his commitment to defend his community. He will discuss the concept of "Sumud" - steadfastness - and the key role it plays in Masafer Yatta. After the introduction of the speaker and the discussion between the speaker and the moderator there will be time for a Q&A.
