East Asia Dialogues invite you on the 15th of April to assist a conference on the evolution and current challenges of China multilateralism policy.

Since its accession at the United Nations in 1971, the People's Republic of China has transformed from a peripheral player into a central architect of the global multilateral system.

While Beijing leverages its UN Security Council seat, financial contributions, and peacekeeping engagements to shape global governance, it simultaneously champions alternative platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) or the expanded BRICS+. China advocates a form of multilateralism rooted in a conservative reading of the UN Charter emphasizing sovereignty and non-interference, while simultaneously promoting a new type of "multi-bilateralism".

Does this shift reflects China’s strategy to reshape world order? Does it aim at marginalising Western-dominated institutions while promoting a model of cooperation that prioritises economic partnerships and South-South solidarity?

East Asia Dialogues propose you to join for an in-depth discussion of China multilateral foreign policy since 2010 with Quentin Couvreur, PhD in Chinese multilateralism policy.
