Cybersecurity Association - Age Assurance Without Surveillance: Child-Safe Online Access and Privacy

Join us for a hybrid conference on Age Assurance Without Surveillance: Building Child-Safe Online Access While Protecting Privacy (France × Indonesia), organized by the Sciences Po Cybersecurity Association (SCA) and the Association for Law and Technology (ALT), Universitas Indonesia.

As governments and platforms strengthen efforts to protect children online, questions around age assurance are becoming increasingly urgent. Yet many age-check systems today remain ineffective, easy to bypass, inconsistent across services, or intrusive in the way they collect and process personal data.

This event aims to explore how age assurance can be designed to be not only effective, but also proportionate and privacy-preserving — without turning the internet into an identity checkpoint.

Guest speakers:

• Martin Bieri, research officer at the CNIL, who will share insights on age assurance approaches across services, implementation readiness, risks of misuse or overreach, and the feasibility of broader coordination across jurisdictions.
• Putri Kusuma Amanda, child protection expert and practitioner, who will speak to Indonesia’s child online safety governance priorities, implementation realities, and the practical challenges of enforcing platform obligations across diverse users and services.

Through a comparative France-Indonesia discussion, the conference will examine different age assurance models, regulatory approaches, enforcement realities, and implementation challenges across jurisdictions. It will also invite participants to reflect on how child online safety can be advanced without normalizing excessive data collection. A Q&A session and focus group discussion will follow.
