Le Havre campus

Since 2007, the city of Le Havre has been home to Sciences Po’s campus focusing on the Asia-Pacific region. Housed in a building overlooking the port, within a short distance of student residences and sports facilities, the Le Havre Campus offers students a convenient and picturesque setting for their studies.

Established in 2007, the Le Havre campus welcomes nearly 350 students, more than 65% of whom are international, representing a wide range of countries. This diversity contributes to a distinctly international academic environment, set within a city that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, recognised for the originality and modernity of its post-Second World War reconstruction.

The campus offers a curriculum taught in English and provides students with a learning environment conducive to understanding the major contemporary balances, particularly those shaping relations between Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the World.

Through daily engagement with a diversity of intellectual perspectives, students develop a comparative approach to the political, economic and social issues shaping the contemporary world. The variety of backgrounds and experiences fosters ongoing dialogue between cultures and disciplines, contributing to a dynamic and open intellectual community.

A human-scale campus in an international environment

The Le Havre campus stands out for offering a learning environment that is both international and human-scale. With a cohort of around 150 students arriving from across the world each year, the campus provides a setting where close connections are formed from the very first days. Beyond the support provided by administrative staff and faculty, mutual support and solidarity among students are key strengths of the campus.

Located in a contemporary glass-fronted building facing the sea, the campus offers a distinctive learning environment at the heart of a maritime setting open to the world. Classrooms, study areas, library and shared spaces have been designed to encourage interaction and collaboration. This exceptional student environment is complemented by accessible housing options located in the immediate vicinity of the campus.

Student life is particularly vibrant, with debates, conferences, artistic events and sporting activities taking place throughout the year. Students are also encouraged to develop projects in partnership with local stakeholders, including associations, cultural institutions and civic organisations, thereby fostering strong connections with the city and its surrounding region. This combination of international outlook and close-knit community creates an environment conducive to intellectual exchange and to developing a global perspective on contemporary issues.

Understanding the world beyond the classroom

The intellectual life of the campus extends well beyond formal teaching. Throughout the year, conferences, round tables and meetings with researchers, political leaders, diplomats and economic stakeholders enrich students’ reflections on major geopolitical, economic and societal issues, particularly those related to the transformations of the Asia-Pacific region.

Many student projects, some of which are part of the Bachelor’s Civic Learning Programme, are also developed in partnership with local and international institutions, providing concrete opportunities for engagement and experiential learning.

Located on the Normandy coast, around two hours by train from Paris, the City of Le Havre (FR) provides an environment particularly well suited to the international vocation of the campus.

France’s leading port for foreign trade, the city has long been oriented towards exchanges with the rest of the world, particularly with Asia. Rebuilt after the Second World War under the direction of the architect Auguste Perret, it features a unique urban centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. Its modernist architecture and openness to the sea contribute to the distinctive identity of the city.

Le Havre is home to more than 11,000 students and offers a dynamic cultural and sporting life. Students on campus can, for example, visit Le Volcan (FR), the Musée d'art moderne André Malraux, the Bibliothèque Oscar Niemeyer (FR), or Le Tétris (FR), a concert venue. The proximity of the seafront, along with sports facilities and coastal natural spaces, also contributes to the high quality of student life.
