Patrick Baert is Professor of Social Theory at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Selwyn College, Cambridge. Originally from Brussels, Patrick Baert completed his Doctorate at the University of Oxford. Amongst his recent publications are The Existentialist Moment; The Rise of Sartre as a Public Intellectual (Polity Press 2015), Conflict in the Academy; A Study in the Sociology of Intellectuals (with M Morgan, Palgrave 2015) and The Sociology of Intellectuals; After ‘The Existentialist Moment’ (with S Susen, Palgrave 2017).

Research interests

Social theory, sociology of intellectuals, history of intellectual thought, role of intellectuals in European politics.
