Research interests

Joonas Pörsti was first intrigued by contemporary political propaganda and published a non-fiction book on the topic in 2017. This project inspired his current doctoral research on political rhetoric. In his doctoral dissertation he compares the anti-Islamic rhetoric of radical right parties in three countries (France, Sweden and Finland) in historical perspective, from 1980 to 2020.

Research project pursued at the CEE

During his stay at the CEE, Joonas Pörsti will develop the dissertation’s chapter on the rhetoric of Front National/Rassemblement national and collect source material to analyze the conceptions of social order carried by the party rhetoric. His research approach draws from both history and political science, with methodological input from rhetorical studies.
