Dimitri Prandner is a postdoctoral researcher at the empirical social research unit at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. He holds a master’s degree in sociology and a PhD in Communication studies.

He joined academia as a research associate in 2010, conducting Bourdieu inspired studies on the transformations in contemporary journalism at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg.

In 2016, Dimitri Prandner became senior scientist at the empirical social research unit of the Johannes Kepler University Linz, overviewing the Social Survey Austria (SSA), coordinating the project and monitoring the fieldwork of the general survey 2016 and the immigrant survey of the same year. He is a member of the SSA board since then, acts as a founding member as well as an associate of AUSSDA – the Austrian social Science Data Archive – and speaker of the sociological methods and research design section from the Austrian Sociological Association (OeGS).

Dimitri Prandner’s research interests are survey data quality, political efficacy and information patterns. His theoretical approach is influenced by the writings of Pierre Bourdieu, Norbert Elias as well as Émile Durkheim. Recent publications include book chapters and journal articles on political involvement and information behaviour of the Austrian population at large, and migrants in particular.

Research projects pursued at the CEE

During his stay at the CEE Dimitri Prandner will work with materials collected by the CA16111 - International Ethnic and Immigrant Minorities' Survey Data Network from Prof. Laura Morales.

Furthermore, he wants to explore the possibility to map patterns of research initiatives, based on the political and societal climate during specific periods as well as in geographical regions.
